Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the most popular hill stations in India. Nestled at an altitude of 2,276 meters (7,467 feet) above sea level, Shimla is known for its stunning landscapes, colonial-era architecture, and pleasant climate. The town was declared the summer capital of British India in 1864 and has since retained its charm and allure. Shimla’s picturesque surroundings, lush greenery, and snow-capped mountains make it a perfect destination for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.
The town is home to several historical landmarks, including the Viceregal Lodge, Christ Church, and the Gaiety Theatre. The Mall Road and The Ridge are popular spots for shopping, dining, and leisurely strolls. Shimla also offers a range of outdoor activities, such as trekking, skiing, and paragliding, making it an ideal destination for both relaxation and adventure.
DAYWISE TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Delhi - Shimla
Start your journey from Delhi early in the morning. The distance between Delhi and Shimla is approximately 342 kilometers, and the road trip usually takes around 7-8 hours. Upon arrival, check-in at your chosen hotel or resort in Shimla. After a delicious lunch, take some time to relax and soak in the serene surroundings. In the evening, explore the iconic Mall Road, a bustling promenade lined with charming shops, eateries, and colonial-style architecture. Enjoy a leisurely stroll and take in the breathtaking views of the verdant hills and mist-clad peaks.
Day 2: Exploring Shimla
Begin your day with a visit to the Viceregal Lodge, also known as the Rashtrapati Niwas, a historic building that once served as the residence of the British Viceroy of India. The lodge is now a museum and offers guided tours of its grand interiors and beautiful gardens. Afterward, head to the Jakhoo Temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, located on Jakhoo Hill, the highest point in Shimla. Enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
In the afternoon, visit the Christ Church, one of the oldest churches in North India, known for its stunning stained glass windows and neo-Gothic architecture. Next, explore the Gaiety Theatre, a historic cultural center that hosts various performances and events. Return to Mall Road for some shopping and indulge in local delicacies at the various cafes and eateries.
Day 3: Shimla - Delhi
After breakfast, visit the Kufri, a small hill station located about 16 kilometers from Shimla. Kufri is known for its scenic beauty and adventure activities, such as skiing, tobogganing, and horse riding. Spend some time exploring the area and enjoying the outdoor activities. Before heading back to Delhi, make a stop at the Himalayan Nature Park in Kufri, home to a variety of Himalayan wildlife, including the snow leopard and the Himalayan monal.
