Nainital, a charming hill station in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India, is often referred to as the “Lake District of India.” Nestled at an altitude of approximately 2,084 meters (6,837 feet) above sea level, Nainital is surrounded by seven hills and centered around the beautiful Naini Lake. The town’s name is derived from the Naini Lake, which is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in Hindu mythology. According to legend, the lake was formed when the eye (Nain) of the goddess Sati fell at this spot.
Nainital’s picturesque landscapes, pleasant climate, and colonial-era architecture make it a popular destination for tourists seeking a peaceful retreat. The town offers a variety of attractions, including the Naina Devi Temple, Snow View Point, Tiffin Top, and the Mall Road. DAYWISE TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1: Delhi - Nanital
Start your journey from Delhi early in the morning. The distance between Delhi and Nainital is approximately 320 kilometers, and the road trip usually takes around 6-7 hours. Upon arrival, check-in at your chosen hotel or resort in Nainital. After a delicious lunch, take some time to relax and soak in the serene surroundings. In the evening, explore the iconic Mall Road, a bustling promenade lined with charming shops, eateries, and colonial-style architecture. Enjoy a leisurely stroll and take in the breathtaking views of the verdant hills and mist-clad peaks.
Day 2: Exploring Nanital
Begin your day with a visit to Snow View Point, which offers panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. You can reach Snow View Point by taking a thrilling cable car ride or a leisurely trek. Afterward, head to Naina Devi Temple, a revered Shakti Peeth located on the northern shore of Naini Lake. Spend some time at the temple and enjoy the peaceful ambiance. Next, visit the Nainital Zoo, home to a variety of Himalayan wildlife, including the snow leopard and the Himalayan black bear. In the afternoon, take a boat ride on the Naini Lake and enjoy the serene waters and surrounding scenery. Return to Mall Road for some shopping and indulge in local delicacies at the various cafes and eateries.
Day 3: Nanital - Delhi
After breakfast, visit Tiffin Top, also known as Dorothy’s Seat, a popular picnic spot offering magnificent views of the Nainital town and surrounding hills. Next, explore the picturesque Eco Cave Gardens, a series of interconnected caves and hanging gardens that provide a fun and adventurous experience. Before heading back to Delhi, make a stop at the Nainital Lake for a peaceful boat ride and some relaxation.
